What we make
CROWN TAILORING is a women’s tailoring label based in London. We work from one workshop: a walnut cutting table, a rail of half-finished jackets, a north window and a pressing board in the corner. Out of that room come suit jackets, trousers, waistcoats, shirts and skirts, drafted on our own blocks in UK 6 to 20 and cut from worsted wool suiting, wool-linen and cotton shirting. The look is deliberately narrow: ink black, charcoal, graphite and pewter, brass-finish hardware, no prints, no seasonal noise. Everything on the site is finished and in stock before it is listed, so what you order is the garment we measured, pressed and boxed.
From roll to boxed garment
Cloth arrives by the roll and rests on the walnut table for a day so it can relax before it is marked. We lay the pattern in one layer, chalk it, and cut with shears. Fronts are canvassed and pad-stitched through the lapel so the roll line falls on its own, then basted, pressed over a ham and fitted on the stand before the lining goes in. Collars are felled by hand, buttonholes are worked and finished with a bar tack, hems are blind-stitched. Trousers get a stiffened waistband curtain and a 5cm hem allowance; skirts get a faced waistband and a lapped zip; shirts are single-needle stitched at the armhole and side seam. Every finished piece is measured against its spec sheet, given a final press, wrapped in tissue and boxed.
